    Porsche 997 Turbo running report

    Part 1 Introduction:-

I would expect I may be unusual in that I came from Aston's and 3 Previous Porsche's and then to a Ferrari 360 and 430 then back to a 997 Turbo, there is some logic to my car buying which I will explain as I go along.

The 911 Turbo has always been thought of as the highest performing 911 but set up softer for road use where the GT3 and GT2 are more hard core cars. I think it's always fair to suggest that in 0-60 figures and top speed numbers for the Turbo are usually the quickest car.

I purchased my 997 Turbo (18 months old car) in March 2010 with 10K miles on the clock, I did want to place an order for a new car with PDk gearbox, but felt that as the next all new (998) 911 Porsche was only 18 months away I would be foolish to place the order just yet, therefore I ended up asking the Porsche dealer to transfer my deposit to take delivery of an early all new car in 2012. The actual price of my Porsche was within 10K of my 3 year old 430.

My initial reactions on driving the car was "OMG" just how quick can a car be, and that's stepping out of a 430, I first test drove a Manual car, I just could not get comfortable, with a doggy left leg I declined an almost new car, then tried the Tiptronic found it so easy to drive and far too easy to speed, I did miss the paddles and the Tip cars only have a rocker type switch on the steering wheel, which is not as pleasant to use. However the latest cars can now have the flappy paddles like a Ferrari F1 box. For interest the Tiptronic cars are approx 0.5 of a second faster than the manual cars and the PDK cars are even faster with 0-60 being Manual 4.1 sec Tiptronic 3.6 sec and the PDK being 3.2 with the latest Turbo S being 2.9 sec.

I will continue this post over the next few days

    Update

Cars been going well, done about 3K miles now, only issue is a bit of squealing brakes, so may pop to the local delaer and get them cleaned, I am sure the disks are ok. Really enjoyed the ability to carry 4 people, means the younger kids in the family can all share car days out.

Update on opinion, no change really otehr than I do miss the flappy paddles a bit and look forward to taking delivery of my 998 PDK in 2011/12, you can now get teh Tip cars modified with paddles but at 3K I think its better to wait.

    Changed the car...Ouch

Well loved the turbo but a brand new Porsche 997 GEN 2 GT3 RS is on its way, 1 week, as many of you will know and appreciate this is a cult car, very much a 430 Scuderia of the Porsche world, and if you watch the latest videos by fith Gear and Topgear you will see they put it head to head with the 458, and love it. Pictures to follow in a few days!

Mean while have a look (mine is white with gold lettering special order as Black wheels) http://fwd.five.tv/fifth-gear/videos...gt3-rs-hot-lap

Initial Pics Before the Graphics go on

Thsi si a very Special GT3 RS as its a 2010 spec and has had over £10K worth of special paint work done inside and out, pictures to follow after delivery on Friday, but this isi hoe she is now at Porsche Bristol. You will notice teh special wheel colour Black with a white Band, thsi apparently is a popular special order extra from the Motorsport division, for me I much prefer the Black to the Red wheels, anyway I hope to give a new running report over the next few weeks
